Ronchi di Cialla Rosato

A new rosé to add to your rotation from Colli Orientali del Friuli Ronchi di Cialla Rosé di Cialla Rosato 2021 Ronchi di Cialla is well known for reviving Schioppettino in the 1970s and promoting local varietals. Made from 100% Refosco, Friuli’s most well-known indigenous red varietal. It is certified organic, macerated on the skins for 18 hours to give it this pretty in salmon pink color. Free run juice juice is fermented with ambient yeasts in stainless steel with a few months on other lees to give it an extra creamy texture. Pours into the glass a bright coral pink color. Wonderful aromatics of raspberry, strawberry watermelon, grapefruit, blood orange and dried herbs. Elegant, fine structure with a creamy texture. The presence of bramble, citrus, mineral and red fruit notes found on the nose along with savory dough, dried mint and anise. The acidity frames the wine from start to finish. Perfect with grilled sardines, hummus and olives or as an aperatif.

13th Street Expression Cabernet Franc Rosé

13th street winery Expression Cabernet Franc Rosé 2021 Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada Predominantly Cabernet Franc (94% Cabernet Franc, 6% Pinot Noir). They add a touch of Pinot Noir for brightness and complexity. A portion of the proceeds helps to support Canadian artists. Brilliant magenta pink in the glass with intense aromas of wild red berries, watermelon, pink peppercorn, lemon pith, rhubarb, grass and roasted bell peppers. Oh so refreshing acidity meets juicy tart flavors of bright raspberry& strawberry, red cherry, watermelon, blood orange and tangerine and a hum of pink peppercorns. The freshness and 12% abv made this wine a double banger while north of the border. Pair with vegetarian samosas as we did with grilled black bean burgers, roasted poblano mushroom tacos or herbed grilled tuna steaks. A special thanks to the Brockville Fire department (who were in the area doing routine inspections) for joining in on the fun with some photos and a quick lesson on 13th Street and their lovely rosé 😂

Chateau de Berne Inspiration Rosé

About last night ….. rooftop breezes, chill patio scene, 360 degree views of the city, your best friend visiting from back home, amazing food, service (thanks Dan) and a rosé that made the sweltering heat disappear. The food, the company, the wine and the vibe were everything. We closed the place down. That is the experience at the ROOFTOP AT THE PROVIDENCE G Chateau de Berne Inspiration Rosé 2021 A blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah, the wine is rose gold in the glass with wake me up aromas of strawberry, raspberry, tangerine, citrus, nectarine and dried herbs. But wait it’s to hot, I need a sip of this lively acidity and light bodied lady with tickle my tongue wild red berries, melon, peach, tangerine and pink grapefruit, tart key lime and thyme finish. The shared plates: Duck & Fig flatbread with ricotta, herbs, arugula, garlic confit Thai green curry mussels Burrata with chickpea puree, pine nut pesto, pickled shallots, garlic crostini New Orleans BBQ Tempura shrimp (my fav)

Champagne Petiteaux Mobline Brut – Beach Perfect

ʙᴇᴀᴄʜ, ʙᴜʙʙʟᴇꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ʙᴇꜱᴛ ʙᴜᴅꜱ There’s nothing like a brut champagne from Champagne Petiteaux paired with the ocean breeze, salt air and good friends. Champagne Petiteaux Mobline Brut Pours into the glass a pale golden color with a lively perlage. The aromatics of grapefruit zest, tart lemon, green apple and pear, minerals, brioche, and white blossom surround you. The polished palate offers creamy apple, brioche intertwined with a raspberry cream tart, minerals and toasted hazelnuts. It’s drier than your average Brut which is lovely, lots of balance between. minerals, the toast side and lingering fruit.

Hiruzta Txakoli Rosado

Bodega Hiruzta Txakoli Rosado 2021 Getariako Txakolina DO 55% Hondarrabi Beltza. 45% Hondarrabi Zuri grapes made in the saignée method after a short 4-6 hours maceration and fermented at cool temperatures. Blush me red currant color with aromatic and bright herbaceous charm along with citrus, red and black berries, dried herbs and minerals. The light bodied style and lower alcohol profile go hand in hand. The bell pepper, jalapeño, salted watermelon, red currant, strawberry, blackberries and grapefruit zest are beyond moorish. The slight effervescence accentuates the zingy acidity and refreshing nature are all so welcome in this sweltering heat. This wine just makes me smile every single time. We and the polo match thank you for this winning combination. Paired with a Mediterranean grilled vegetable (eggplant, red peppers, squash and zucchini), fresh mozzarella drizzled with a balsamic garlic vinaigrette. Perfecto !!!

Ronco Severo Pinot Grigio

Stefano Novello – wine producer – cult following as natural as it gets. Friuli Venezia Giulia this 100% Pinot Grigio made in the local traditional method – 1 month of skin contact, ambient yeasts and barrel aged for 24 months in 30hl Slovenian oak barrels. Ronco Severo Pinot Grigio 2018 Glistening copper color without even trying. It radiates its intensity. Swirl and the aromas of citrus zest, dark cherry, dry hay, wild jasmine and acacia blossoms with roasted nuts greet your senses. The first sip coats your mouth with its enthusiasm. This is a complex, full-bodied skin contact wine with assertive tannins and brisk acidity. The bam flavors of orange and grapefruit zest, cherry pit, apricot kernel, walnut skin and roasted almonds, sourdough bread, orange blossom and an intriguing spicy finish of ginger and cloves. It’s just radiant. This wine has “balls” it’s masculine, powerful and oh so seductive.

That’s first sip is alive, ready to meet you head on, dry with its racy acidity, creamy texture and teaser tickle tannins the palate very softly – it has immense softness balanced with its fresh beauty. Beat the heat pool side as I did with this charming Lambrusco or if you are bubbly break out the charcuterie board and dig in.

Marie Courtin Résonance

Twirling and swirling with happinessMy state of being with my best friend visiting for the first time Covid began AND Champagne Marie Courtin Résonance Extra Brut 2018 100% Pinot Noir this gorgeous Blanc de Noire champagne “resonates” from the sky above to the earth below (Dominique Moreau named this champagne for a specific spiritual purpose; “’Résonance’ refers to the balancing energies of earth and sky that affect the creation of a wine from its surrounding terroir.” Perfumed Kimmeridgian smoke chalky soils of the Cote des Bars are at the forefront with essences of orchard and stone fruit, brioche and blossom that virbrates with energy. Lively fine bubbles and taught acidity accompany the sour red cherry, strawberry, apple and pear compote, pastry cream, apricot & apricot kernel, blood orange and lemon zest, croissant into a salted almond drenched finish. It is the type of champagne that is beautifully focused throughout. Vibrant, rich and expressive. Keep on smiling

13th Street Gamay Summertime

Yesterday’s hypnotic swirl was brought to you by GAMAY. But not just any Gamay, a Niagara, Ontario Gamay. Get ready to meet your summer gulpable pal. 13th Street Winery Gamay 2021 This cool climate darling is very at home and one of the shining reds of the Niagara Peninsula region in Ontario, Canada is Gamay. 13th Street Winery produces one of the best examples. A boutique winery located in the Niagara Peninsula specializing in small lot wines. This is an example of their intro to Gamay for those looking for a great QPR under $20. Their single vineyard Gamay are incredible as an FYI. Shining vivid ruby in the glass with bright and juicy red fruit, wet earth, black pepper and forest floor. The soft tannins and juicy acidity carry the savory sour cherry, raspberry , strawberry, violet, earthy mushroom and black pepper. The finish is delectable and delicious. A fruity yet savory styled Gamay that I quite like lightly chilled, especially in 40C/104F temps. It just seems to lift its spirits and brighten the silky palate of liquid sunset. Enjoy with a salami focaccia, mushroom tartine, duck prosciutto or just because it’s so thirst quenching.

Clos de Midi 2019 Saumur Blanc

Beat the heat with a vibrant and alive Chenin Blanc from Arnaud Lambert. Clos de Midi 2019 Saumur BlancBrézé, Saumur, Loire Organic 40-year-old vines on tuffeau limestone bedrock, the dense ripe fruit, no oak, fermented and aged in concrete tanks and eggs. This wine is 100% Chenin Blanc, it resembles the freshness of a young Sancerre, the soft richness of Chablis, but with the unmistakable charm of Chenin Blanc from Brézé. Slightly discreet on the nose as if to say hello dear, wait for it – you are in for a rollercoaster of sensations. This darling of a 100% Chenin Blanc has delicate aromas of honey, sweet lemon, chalky minerality, chamomile, apple and orange zest.I find the mouthwatering acidity so satisfying and beguiling – it’s a crescendo of pleasure that carries the waves of flavors of candied citrus, apple and pear, white peach and cantelope, saline, honeysuckle, beeswax, yogurt, straw, brioche with a slight tang phenolic finish that lingers oh so long that leaves you coming back for more. Get out those scallops, freshly shucked oysters or just for a refreshing glass in the very high summer temperatures
