The Fleur de Pinot Marsannay Rosé 2021 by Sylvain Pataille is a captivating wine that showcases the elegance and complexity of Pinot Noir and Pinot Beurot from the Marsannay, Burgundy region. Sylvain is a highly regarded natural winemaker and consulting oenologist who makes his own wine as well as advises over 15 domaines in Burgundy- he is one busy winemaker! Over time he has built up his parcels to approximately 15 hectares making 12 cuvées of organically made and farmed red, white and rosé wines (in the process of converting to biodynamic).
This rosé is a rarity in the region; one I feel very fortunate to have found here in the USA.
From vines planted in 1932 (Pinot Beurot planted in clay soils En Blungey), 1934 (clay soils Champforeys), and 1949 ( limestone soils Charme Aux Prêtres). The wines aged in demi-muids (1/3 new) and stainless steel, aged for up to 24 months (18 on average) before bottling.

Imagine a glass filled with the vibrant crimson hue of Marilyn Monroe’s lipstick.
As you inhale, a symphony of red berry aromas fills your senses. Ripe strawberries, cranberries, raspberries and white peach dance, the sweetness tempered by a delicate bouquet of floral notes of rose and violet intertwine, adding a touch of elegance and complexity. The whisper of citrus zest, cherry syrup, brioche, cream, white pepper, cinnamon and the mineral undercurrent provide a vast contrast, teasing your palate with anticipation tickling your nose with its earthy forest floor, salted almond and mushroom savory undertones.
The first sip is an invitation to sophistication, a refreshing caress of balance of energetic acidity and sweet, juicy fruit. The wine’s texture is silky smooth, with a touch of creaminess that adds a luxurious mouthfeel. The earthy, mineral backbone has such depth and presence. The finish extremely persistent, lingering notes of blood orange zest, roasted mushrooms, marzipan and cinnamon with a subtle saline quality. There are so many descriptors that I could truly go on and on….
A sensory experience that lingers long after the last sip. It’s a testament to the art of winemaking, a harmonious blend of nature and human craftsmanship. As you savor each moment, you’ll find yourself drawn deeper into the wine’s seductive embrace, a journey of discovery that rewards the senses and the soul.
His Fleur de Pinot Marsannay Rosé is a testament to his skill and passion. Period.
