Jumping Into Summer With Frog's Leap
Jumping into an incredible #virtualtasting with #familyowned @frogsleap located in #rutherford #napavalley
John, Tori and Rory presented their summer essential wines and pairing tips along with the Frog’s Leap family journey, a look inside their winemaking practices, their commitment to sustainable and organic efforts which go above and beyond paired with little anecdotes and family camaraderie. John & Tory are a family of farmers bringing quality from the vineyard up to the bottle. They are constantly evolving, tasting, adapting. The winery’s name - the Leap in the name from where he started his winemaking journey at Stags Leap and the frog farm was where it all began .
One common theme with their wines, they are honest. They have a refined elegance intertwined with California terroir expression, first sip you know you are in Napa. The four wines that we tasted are so versatile with a multitude of pairings.
Sauvignon Blanc 2022: So fresh and green, Rutherford, deeper soils a joy to grow. Lemon and lime floral lifted. Delicate grapefruit and minerality richness without being over the top and keeps its crisp refreshing character – like spring veggies, asparagus frittata or pea risotto.
Chardonnay Shale & Stone 2021: Chardonnay from Carmelo’s hillside winery, a wine enjoyed by their friends since 1985, is aged for one year on the lees. It offers a rich lemon zest aroma, followed by a taste of lemon curd. The wine has a round mouthfeel with ripe stone fruit and a hint of minerality. It exhibits great tension and expression, along with a beautiful acid profile. Aged in new oak for 4 days and 11 months in concrete tank.
Zinfandel 2021: The Zinfandel, which shows up the day before you pick, is co-fermented with Petit Sirah and Carignan. It has a beautiful lift and life, with violets, plum, silky tannins, and a beautiful expression of California.
Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown 2019: The Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely spectacular in its elegance. It's an explosion of classic CS Napa character. An incredible silky elegance, high-toned expression, so refined and energetic. They are an incredibly passionate family, growing the right grape in the right soil. It's connected to its place. Grapevines are living beings, and all influences have a deep impact on what they produce - balance and respect for terroir, a deep connection to biodiversity.
As John said, it’s a beautiful craft and I am so fortunate. Tory said, “wines should be delicious, accessible and enjoyed. The four wines that we tasted are so versatile in their multiplicity of food pairings. They are lower on alcohol and higher on acidity because they pick earlier. Many thanks to the Williams family for this intimate get together. Looking forward to visiting the winery again soon.
