Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or a curious newcomer, their wines offer an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of Ribera del Duero.
I had the immense pleasure of discovering their wine range at a masterclass tasting hosted by the engaging Veronica Ruiz. Her knowledge, passion and infectious energy are an extension of the family and their commitment to quality winemaking. On a personal note, I was very impressed by this particular wine's quality-to-price ratio. Veronica asked us to guess how much we thought this bottle would retail for. There were guesses ranging from $35 to $60 (I guessed $50).
It retails for $18! I was speechless, quite frankly, at the value of this beauty. I immediately shared this find with my fellow wine enthusiasts.
Dehesa La Granja 2016
Made from 100% Tempranillo in the Castilla y León DO. Aged for 24 months in American oak.
Pours into the glass a deep garnet color with ruby highlights. The nose is complex and perfumed, featuring ripe red and black fruits like cherries and blackberries, complemented by dried herbs, tobacco, leather, smoke, chocolate and subtle oak notes of vanilla and licorice. The first sip is full-bodied and luxurious, with vibrant fruit flavors balanced by refreshing acidity and well-integrated tannins that offer a velvety texture. Flavors of chocolate, espresso, and earthy nuances add depth and complexity. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering dark fruit and spice notes. This wine is a stunning representation of Tempranillo from Castilla y León, making it a perfect pairing for hearty dishes like traditional Quebec Tourtière, baked maple beans and all of the trimmings.
