We shared a number of appetizers to sample as many creations and flavors as possible.

- Bife de filé mignon com molho de sardinhas: Filet mignon carpaccio served cold with sardines sauce, capers, and mustard leaves
- Pasteis de bacalhau: Cod fritters, aïoli & piri-piri sauce
- Polvo grelhado: Grilled octopus, potatoes espuma, olives, and peppers

Exquisitely paired with Helena’s hand selected Portuguese wines, a favorite from the breathtaking Serra da Estrela mountains, Taboadella is a historic winery with roots tracing back to Roman times. Proudly run by the Amorim family since the 19th century, this estate spans 40 hectares of stunning high-altitude vineyards, renowned for their distinctive minerality. Encruzado Reserva 2023 is crafted solely from the native Encruzado grape, this Reserva showcases a blend of aging techniques: 40% in used French oak barrels, 40% in cement Tulipe tanks, and 20% in stainless steel for 7 months.
A brilliant pale lemon color hints at its vibrancy. The nose bursts with citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit, entwined with green apple and white peach, elevated by floral hints and a whisper of thyme. The first sip? Refreshingly invigorating, with lively acidity, silky texture, and a long, lingering finish.
Each visit to Helena’s is a delightful experience of taste and atmosphere, leaving me eager to return and explore more of her exquisite creations. If you find yourself in Montreal, don't miss the chance to indulge in the remarkable dishes crafted by this talented chef. You won't be disappointed!
